From Alissa:
Before becoming a counselor, I spent over 20 years working with people in non-profit, ministry, and mentorship settings. After years of recommending therapy to others, I wanted to step into the work myself — to be the one sitting across from clients, offering a steady presence and creating a safe space for growth, healing, and restoration. My hope is to come alongside others as they navigate the complexities of life and remind them they are not alone in the journey.
Current Practice:
I enjoy working with people in every age and stage of life and enjoy working with a variety of topics including relationship issues, major life transitions, parenthood struggles, disordered eating, anxiety, depression, and overall wellness. I believe the counseling relationship is central to the healing process and that each client deserves an experience tailored to them. My approach is integrative and collaborative. Since I believe healing happens within the context of relationships – both in the therapeutic space and in our connection to others – my aim is to create a nonjudgmental environment where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to explore their places of pain and strength as they pursue healing and growth in their lives.
Training:
I am a counseling intern currently pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX. I have been on staff with the organization of Young Life for over 17 years working with adolescents and adults in many different contexts. This experience has developed a deep love in me for partnering with others in their journey and has taught me the value of consistency, curiosity, and unrelenting love for others.
Background:
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Radio-Television-Film from The University of Texas at Austin. When I’m not in the office, you can find me spending time with my husband and kids, playing outside, reading a good book, sharing a meal with friends, or watching a movie with people I love. If you would like an Austin restaurant or movie recommendation, just ask.
