From Megan:
I entered the field of counseling because I have always valued listening to people’s stories and have felt a strong draw to walk with people who are going through pain, suffering, and difficult life transitions. I have personally experienced tremendous growth in my own participation in counseling and wanted to be able to offer that same support to others. I hope that when someone sits with me they feel valued, safe, and understood. I want to offer people a relaxed environment where they are comfortable, known, and free to share their honest struggles without fear of judgment.
Current Practice:
We are neurologically wired for connection, so to have someone join us in our pain is tremendously healing. I hope to be a safe place for people to come as they are- without pressure to perform, have all the answers, or look a certain way. It is an honor for me to be in a room with a client and help them accept themselves in any given season of life. I experience joy in my work from the opportunity to witness clients’ hearing and trusting the voice of love, and see them become empowered to make positive changes for themselves. I get to learn from my clients’ experiences, support them in their struggles, and celebrate with them in their joys. I specialize in work with clients experiencing low self-worth, grief, anxiety, depression, codependency/relationship issues, as well as those who have experienced religious or spiritual trauma.
Training:
I received my Masters of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary in June 2022. While pursuing my counseling degree I was employed at a behavioral pediatric clinic working with children and families as they navigated behavioral concerns. I also interned with a private practice where I gained experience working with teens, young adults, adults, and couples. Background:
I grew up in Lucas, just north of Dallas and graduated in 2018 from Texas A&M with my bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. I taught middle and high school students before pursuing my degree in counseling. I also volunteered with Young Life ministries and enjoyed walking alongside middle school and high school students as they navigated life and relationships. It was through my time and experiences at A&M that I recognized how unaddressed emotional wounds can negatively impact one’s ability to live a life of fulfillment and meaning and led me to pursue a career in counseling.
I was married in 2019, and my husband and I now live in North Austin with our dog, Leo. In our free time, we enjoy getting outside as much as possible, exploring new places, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
